A group of ten passionate delegates from Australian Catholic Religious Against Trafficking in Humans (ACRATH) embarked on their annual visit to Parliament House.
Commencing Monday 4 September, ACRATH delegates worked to engage with members of Parliament to bring attention to pressing issues surrounding human trafficking and modern slavery, and advocate for systemic change.
During this influential advocacy visit, ACRATH delegates focused on four key issues that promote attention and action:
• Australia needs a National Compensation Scheme for Victim/Survivors of Modern Slavery
• Australia needs a National Labour Hire Licensing Scheme
• ACRATH is delighted by the 2023 Budget announcement of a pilot scheme for an additional pathway onto the Support for Trafficked People Program (STPP)
• Australia needs an independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner
Action on the above issues will help to prevent exploitation of people in Australia and enable victim/survivors to access their human rights.
