The Australian Pastoral Musicians Network and the National Liturgical Council are delighted to announce a combined Liturgy and Music Conference.
The Conference, which is looking at the theme Mystery and Mission: the Art of Liturgical Celebration is set to take place from Thursday 28 September to Saturday 30 September at the Hilton Hotel, Brisbane.
APMN Vice President Angela Gorman said the conference theme speaks to the reality that liturgy, well-celebrated, leads to an encounter with Christ in the liturgical event, and thereby inspires members of the Body of Christ to continue the mission of the Church through dynamic expression in their daily lives.
“It is anticipated that this exciting event, the first face-to-face liturgical conference gathering for the Australian Catholic Church since 2019, will attract more than 500 delegates including liturgists, musicians, clergy, cantors, choristers, lay liturgical ministers, composers, teachers, conductors, liturgy teams, campus ministers and many more.
“Importantly, as a “peak body” gathering, the conference attendees will include key music and liturgy leaders and decision makers from Catholic dioceses, parishes, schools and agencies from throughout Australia and New Zealand,” she said.
Among the keynote speakers is academic director of the Notre Dame Centre for Liturgy and director of education at the McGrath Institute for Church Life, Professor Timothy O’Malley PhD. Prof O’Malley teaches and researches at the University of Notre Dame in liturgical-sacramental theology and is the author of ten books including works on liturgical formation and the doctrine of real presence.

Prof O’Malley will be joined by Sarah Hart who is one of the leading figures in contemporary Catholic music today. Her songs of faith, spirit of joy, and love for teaching and leading workshops have touched the lives of thousands.
Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Sarah spends much of her time on the road – juggling a busy songwriting, recording, concert and event schedule. Sarah’s songs have been recorded by numerous recording artists, and her compositions are found in hymnals across the globe.
Sarah is also a Grammy Nominee and BMI Winner and a Mark Award Winner for TV/Film Music Writing.
Joining Sarah and Timothy are renowned Australian liturgist Rev Dr Tom Elich and Associate Professor and musician Maeve Louise Heaney from New Zealand. Over 30 liturgists, composers and musicians from all over Australia will present some 50 workshops across the three days of the Conference.
With such a large gathering of delegates there will also be many opportunities for conversation and discussion, networking and sharing. This is an event not to be missed!
