For the first time, more than 80,000 West Australian students are enrolled in a Catholic School, as families continue to benefit from school choice.
The February 2023 State census data shows 80,336 children are enrolled in Catholic education, an increase of 4.6 per cent since 2020.
The increase in enrolments has come across the State, with a 3.9 per cent increase in enrolments in Metro schools and an 8.6 per cent increase in Country schools.
There are also more Aboriginal students enrolled in Catholic schools, with 4.7 per cent of all students being Aboriginal, compared to 4.2 per cent in 2020.
Catholic Education Executive Director, Dr Debra Sayce said at a time where they have faced challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic and an increase in the cost of living, she is delighted that families continue to put their faith in a Catholic education.
“That’s because families know they will receive an affordable, quality, faith-based education, which helps their child grow academically and spiritually so that they can reach their God-given potential and make positive contributions to their communities,” Dr Sayce said.
“And we are expanding our footprint further, with the newest Catholic School, Emmaus Catholic Primary School, opening this year in Dayton – a growth area for our city,” she said.
