Catholic Mission, the Pope’s own Mission agency, is sharing the story of Nilan, a young seminarian from Sri Lanka who is pursuing spiritual development to become a future Church Leader.
In a country where the economic and social crisis disproportionately affected the most vulnerable communities, Nilan is determined to become a priest to serve his community by providing them with pastoral care and tangible support.
Dedicating themselves to serving the less fortunate through charitable and outreach programs, priests also help to create a sense of community and provide a sense of purpose and direction for many people.
Nilan is currently a seminarian at St Aloysius Seminary in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka.
Thanks to the support of Catholic Mission, he is able to continue his journey to become a priest with the objective of dedicating his life to serving others.
Nilan’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact that charitable organisations like Catholic Mission can have on the lives of those in need. It is a call to stand in solidarity with seminarians supporting communities in Sri Lanka and around the world.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support of our donors, who make it possible for us to make a real difference in supporting the spiritual development of future Church Leaders like Nilan,” said Catholic Mission National Director, Fr Brian Lucas.
“Their generosity allows us to provide them with an opportunity to pursue their calling, so one day they will become the cornerstone of their communities by dedicating themselves to serving those who need it most.
“Especially, in a context where the aftermath of the civil war and the COVID-19 pandemic have left many communities in poverty and without access to basic services.”
By making a donation, you too can support Catholic Mission’s work in Sri Lanka and help seminarians like Nilan.
