The University of Notre Dame Australia and WA Country Health Service (WACHS) have teamed up to offer regional and rural nurses the opportunity to take the acclaimed School of Nursing & Midwifery Adult Deterioration: Assessment; Prevention; Treatment (ADAPT) course.
While the beginning of the decade ushered in a new era of online learning and teaching for universities across the world, rural and remote students are still facing hurdles in accessing high quality education.
Similarly, the global COVID-19 crisis has highlighted opportunities for nurses outside of metro areas to develop and enhance their existing knowledge-base.
The partnership between Notre Dame and WACHS means 300 rural and remote nurses will be able to undertake the two-hour webinar, developed and facilitated by Dr Steven Hardman, from July through to October.
The School of Nursing & Midwifery has been running free online CPD courses since early April and has seen a hugely positive response to the expert thought leaders and unique course topics covered.
One participant of the ADAPT course said it was “just what [she] needed”, and she “enjoyed every minute of [the] lecture.”
“I just wanted to say this is a great lecture. I have found this session very helpful. Loved the webinar… excellent information & presentation. So interesting and easy to listen to. I enjoyed every minute of your lecture.”
Dean of Nursing & Midwifery Fremantle Professor Karen Clark-Burg, said the opportunity would be valuable for many students who would otherwise never have the chance to take a course like this.
“As registered health professionals have to meet CPD hours as part of their registration yearly, this online course offers that for the many rural and remote nurses who haven’t had the chance to upskill as much as they might have liked,” Professor Clark-Burg said.
WACHS Coordinator of Nursing Jenni Andrew said the timely implementation of the ADAPT program with a COVID-19 focus is integral to support country clinicians.
“The program is a great example of agencies working together to ensure our clinicians have access to professional development that is contemporary, accessible and targeted to the current environment they work in,” she said.
“This course is based on the ADAPT course that Dr Hardman developed but tailored for the needs and context of a regional setting in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are excited to bring this opportunity to nurses, wherever they live and work.”
The course will be delivered fully online, includes pre-reading materials, and costs just $300. Check out the two other programs available as CPD as well.
