In the lead up to Christmas, a special advent retreat was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Highgate.

Weekly attenders were joined by many people from the wider community for the retreat, held onsite in the Church on the afternoon and evening of 8 December.

The retreat included talks, music, prayer, adoration as well as the sacraments of reconciliation and the mass.

Attendees also enjoyed a special afternoon tea and dinner together.

The Catholic Guy team are part of Highgate Parish, and facilitated the retreat alongside Parish Priest, Fr Irek Czech.

The overall theme of the retreat was based on the four candles of the advent wreath, taken from Romans 15:13, being hope, peace, love and joy.

The main talks were presented by Kylie Duff, who focused on and the fact that peace has already come, and Jason Duff, who focused on the hope that is found in Jesus.

“I loved the presentation style and how easily everything connected with God” said Teresa Nvota, who attended the retreat.

“This adoration time really struck a cord in me. I want to make more time for it next year.”

A special children’s program was held as part of the retreat, giving many families the opportunity to reflect on advent together.

Following the success of this advent retreat, Highgate Parish and the Catholic Guy Team are now planning a Lenten retreat.
