Perth communities have recently gathered in the suburb of Hilton to learn about the benefits of respite care and to see firsthand the activities that respite clients can enjoy while at the centre.
The open day on 10 May, hosted by Southern Plus’ Tony Quinlan Respite Centre, is a wellness service that provides support to carers to have a break from their usual care responsibilities.
Attendees were treated with a number of interactive activities including pet therapy, games, music, a dance therapy session, and a demonstration of sanding and staining furniture from the local Men’s Shed group.

Southern Plus Operations Manager Julie Arnould said respite care provides valuable support for carers in addition to the numerous benefits for those being cared for.
“We understand how tough it can be being a full-time carer, and how important it is for these guardians to have a much-needed break or time away from their usual care responsibilities to focus on their own health and wellbeing.
“Tony Quinlan Respite Centre provides an essential service to carers in the local community by providing day or overnight respite on either a one-off or regular basis,” Julie added.
“Our trained staff take the time to understand the needs and interests of the clients they care for and have developed a broad range of activities that are designed to promote cognitive stimulation and social connections.
“Additionally, having our own bus ensures our clients can also enjoy regular social group outings in the local community.”
