Leading a chaste life requires a lot of perseverance. That is exactly what 21 year old Amy McCabe represented as she received her Initial Vows in front of her closest loved ones.
The private ceremony was held on 11 February in Canberra, where Ms McCabe now resides with the Missionaries of God’s Love Sisters (MGL).
Encouraged by the support received, and her commitment to the Church, Ms McCabe said that she feels gracious and reassured to live out her vocation.
“As much as today is about me receiving my Initial Vows, it is also a celebration of everyone in my life, as well as a celebration of the goodness of God.”
“I feel deeply humbled and graceful in accepting His invitation to lead a religious life,” she added.
Ms McCabe’s mother Mrs Shanon McCabe, said her daughter had first expressed her intentions to join the religious life from the tender age of 12.
However, it was after the Sydney World Youth Day 2008 celebrations, that her then 16 year old daughter was fully committed to her vocation, and eventually joined the MGL Sisters who have been guiding her towards achieving her vocation.
Mrs McCabe added that the family is so proud of Amy’s journey so far, and seeing her make her Initial Vows was a special and proud moment for the family.
“The Mass was so beautiful, and all five of Amy’s siblings participated in one way or another as a gesture of love and support.”
Ms McCabe’s long-time friend Arianne Jacobs expressed her heartiest congratulations, adding that Amy truly is an example of someone who walks in the footsteps of Jesus.
“Amy has always been so generous and kind, having been involved with so many charitable works throughout her childhood.”
“I am so proud of her today, and will continue to support and pray for her during these exciting times,” she said.
