The Emmanuel Centre last month invited the community and people they support to come together in focusing on ‘living Christmas every day through hope, love, welcome, forgiveness, sharing and gift giving’.
Held from 11am to 2pm, the morning saw some 100 members of the community gather at St Francis Xavier Church for carols and were presented with an overview of the agency’s work in 2017.
Volunteers at the Emmanuel Centre were asked to conduct a presentation on the various projects throughout the year and the classes they have been providing in 2017.

Some of these projects include the wheatgrass project, an upholstery workshop, and a weekly skills program.
The presentations also highlighted some new ventures planned for 2018.

Emmanuel Centre Coordinator Barbara Harris then gave a summary on the Centre, its development and their plans going forward.
“I want to acknowledge the different groups and volunteers that make up Emmanuel Centre who have worked with us over 2017.
“The Christmas party at the centre has been held every year for the last 36 years and it gives people an opportunity to come together and celebrate as a ‘family’ and for some, it is their only celebration.
“Gifts are given to all attending and to all those who could not make it this year. This year we had 223 apologies,” she said.
Following the presentation, everyone gathered in the outdoor area for a festive Christmas lunch.
