The St Vincent De Paul Society have this week encouraged the Perth community to imagine what it would feel like as a parent, to not be able to provide a happy Christmas for their children.

In a statement released this week, the social outreach organisation said Christmas is a joyful time of the year.

‘No place to call home, no presents under the tree and no home cooked meal’ the statement described, referring to the initial question to parents.

‘Unfortunately, this is the sad reality for far too many Western Australian families.’

Through its 2017 Christmas Appeal, the St Vincent de Paul Society wants to change this reality for as many people as they can, but need help to make wishes come true.

Vinnies CEO Susan Rooney, said that they hope to raise important funds to assist with essentials such as food, clothing and bill payments for families and individuals in need.

“With the funds raised from our Christmas Appeal, our volunteers are able to provide hope, comfort and dignity this Christmas and ensure that people have the Christmas they deserve,” Ms Rooney said.

“Last Christmas, Vinnies volunteers delivered more than 1,200 Christmas hampers to people experiencing hardship,” she said.

“With increases in the cost of living, a shortage of affordable housing, utility bill increases and high unemployment, more people are struggling to manage financially.

“We know the Western Australian community is very generous, so we hope they continue to support Vinnies to provide much needed assistance for people who are struggling this Christmas,” Ms Rooney explained.

The Vinnies Christmas Appeal launched Wednesday 1 November 2017.
