The Record Magazine spoke to a group of students from Yidarra Catholic Primary School in search of answers from students on the topic of Easter and the events leading up to it. Alessandra, Alistaire, Dan, Anya, Joseph, Jared and Amanda provided their responses.

Why did Jesus die?

  • I think Jesus had to die because God needed Jesus to do something for him.
  • So Jesus could save and protect other people
  • The bad people forced Jesus to die
  • Jesus died so that we could have a good life
  • To save us

What would you do if you were there and saw how Jesus was treated?

  • If I could, I would try to help him to carry the cross to where He died
  • God told Jesus to die, so I know it’s better for him to die for us. I would help him carry the cross.
  • I would try and force them to go away
  • Say to the people that Jesus was telling the truth
  • Tell them to leave him alone

Why do we celebrate Easter?

  • We celebrate Easter for when Jesus rose from the dead and we thank Him for what he did
  • Jesus died then came back to life
  • To spend time with family
  • Because it’s a time to celebrate Jesus coming back

What do you like about Easter?

  • My chance to thank God and thank Jesus
  • Chocolate
  • I like chocolate and spending time with my family
  • Easter egg hunts
  • My dad is mostly off at work, so at Easter I get to spend time with him

If you could pray for anything this Easter, what would it be?

  • I would first thank Jesus that we have good lives
  • To be with me and help me
  • I would pray for Jesus to come back so I can personally thank Him for what He did
  • To help my family and be with us always
  • For God to help us in our everyday lives and be by our side
