In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Our Lady’s Miracle of the Sun at Fatima, parishioners from Canning Vale Parish St Emilie’s Catholic Church on 14 October took to the streets to pay homage to Our Lady.
The morning saw some 250 parishioners including the elderly, the young, the disadvantaged and visitors join Assistant Parish Priest Fr Giovanni Raffaele and Terrence Patterson, organiser of the Marian events, to show their devotion to Our Lady at the parish.

The procession commenced before Mass in the Church with the prayer of our Lady of Fatima and the chanted hymn and finished back at the Church with the celebration of the Eucharist at midday.
Fr Raffaele said that procession was initiated last year by the parishioners who are devoted to Our Lady of Fatima.
“As a priest, I find Mary important in my life, and on many occasions Mary has been the one who has given me light to see the path towards God. Mary has also been a sign of humility, which is important in the life of all Christians.
“Moreover, Mary has been a sign of patience, she who looked at the suffering of her son and accepted God’s will, and waited for the eternal reward.

“The Marian feast of Our Lady of Fatima was a good opportunity for the parish to pray to Mary and ask for her help.
“The procession had been a blessing for many, just by seeing Our Lady passing, some of them felt called to follow the procession while some joined from their windows to pray the rosary.
“This year, we registered some 250 people following Our Lady of Fatima, and the procession was animated by Marian Songs, and at every stop we prayed a decade of the rosary,” Fr Raffaele said.
