New priest ordained in Australia for Indian diocese.
By Anthony Barich
ARCHBISHOP Mark Coleridge of Canberra-Goulburn ordained a priest for the India diocese of Ootacamund with a view to future incorporation into the Australian Archdiocese.
Loorthusamy Irudeyasamy, who joined the seminary in India, was ordained as a Missionary of God’s Love priest in a packed St Christopher’s Cathedral on August 14, the Vigil of the Assumption.
His parents from India joined a large number of archdiocesan clergy, members of the Tamil Catholic community and parishioners from South Tuggeranong where he was serving before his ordination.
He joined the diocesan seminary in Ootacamund and had been a deacon for at least five years before meeting Fr Ken Barker, founder of the MGLs, in India in 2006. After arriving in Australia in 2007 he decided to become a diocesan priest, but is yet to be incardinated into the Archdiocese of Canberra-Goulburn.
Fr Samy will remain a priest at Corpus Christi parish in Gowrie, Tuggeranong, where he resided as a deacon since arriving in Australia.
Fr Barker told The Record that Fr Samy has the gift of preaching and his spirituality is centred on the Eucharist.
